Israel Strikes Iran, Kills IRGC Commander Hossein Salami

Israeli airstrikes hit Iranian nuclear and military sites overnight on 13 June 2025, killing Major General Hossein Salami, commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The Israeli military said the attacks targeted facilities, including the Parchin complex, to disrupt Iran’s nuclear programme.

Iran’s state media reported civilian deaths, claiming residential areas were struck. Israel denied targeting civilians, stating only strategic sites were hit. Senior IRGC commander Gholamali Rashid and nuclear scientists Fereydoun Abbasi and Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi were also killed, according to Iranian reports.

Iran vowed retaliation, raising concerns about further conflict. The US urged diplomacy while opposing Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The attacks heighten tensions between Israel and Iran, with the region awaiting Iran’s response.

Civilian casualty reports remain unverified, and details may evolve.
